Early Reading (Phonics)
Mrs Gray is our Early Reading Lead and is passionate about the children having the very best phonics learning experience available in any school. Please ask at the office if you would like to arrange an appointment with her or if you have any questions... alternatively, check out the parent guide booklets: parent guide 1 parent guide 2
At Jacksdale Primary we invest a lot of time and have high aspirations for the children as they learn to read.
Early reading is critical to all children so that they develop the skills and confidence to become independent readers which has an impact on writing ability and opens doors to so many different avenues!
RWI (Read Write Inc.) is an English focused programme which enables the teaching of early reading and writing (phonics).
We understand that how your child is learning to read and write may be very different to how we, as adults, remember learning to read and write. In the links on this page you will be able to access a lot of guidance and support so that you can help your child as much as possible - and access the information as often as you like...
How can we help you to help your child?
We also run parent workshops so that you can see and have a go at practising some of the phonics (sounds) learning that your child takes part in EVERY DAY at school.
Our next parent workshop is planned to take place for our nursery parents (Big Explorers and Little Explorers) on Wednesday 14th February 2025 (9:00am / 2:00pm). Mrs Gray, our Early Reading Lead will be running 2 separate workshops so hopefully parents / carers are able to join us either following drop off or before collection from nursery.
Wondering what we mean when we talk about speed sounds?
