Computing
Technology is at the core of this ever changing world and it is changing the lives of everyone - probably more quickly than any of us realise!
Through teaching Computing at Jacksdale Primary and Nursery school we will equip the children to participate in a rapidly changing world where work and leisure activities are increasingly transformed by technology.
We will prepare our children to use computational thinking with creativity to understand and change the world. The National Curriculum aims to ensure that all pupils:
Can understand and apply the fundamental principles and concepts of computer science, including abstraction, logic, algorithms and data representation.
Can analyse problems in computational terms and have repeated practical experience of writing computer programs in order to solve such problems.
Can evaluate and apply information technology, including new or unfamiliar technologies analytically to solve problems.
Are responsible, competent, confident and creative users of information and communication technology.
By the time the children leave Jacksdale Primary and Nursery School, they will have gained key knowledge and skills in three mains areas of the computing curriculum:
- Computer science
- Digital literacy
- ICT
Computing is taught in blocks and the children have access to a weekly computing lesson. This ensures children are able to develop depth in their knowledge and skills over the duration of each of their computing topics. Teachers use the “PurpleMash” computing scheme of work as a starting point for the planning of their computing lessons, which are often richly linked to engaging contexts in other subjects and topics. The children have access to a class set of iPads. Employing cross-curricular links motivates pupils and supports them to make connections and remember the steps they have been taught.
